National Book Token competition 2010
For the third year running one of our customers has been a winner in the National Book Tokens summer competition. To put this in contect there were only 4 prizes in the country!! Charlotte answered all the questions correctly and the judges liked her tie break answers so she has won £50 of book tokens.
Charlotte said that her favourite book is "The Knife of Never Letting Go" because it is really different and unique. There's something spectacular about it, constant excitement and mystery. A real page turner.
She also said her favourite bookshop is The Village Bookshop (thank you Charlotte!) because we always have the books she wants and have new books for her to enjoy. Her favourite books are books that we recommend.
You can see Charlotte with her current favourite book in the photo album below. See Alison's latest reads for more info on that title.
Design a Bookmark for The Village Bookshop
As part of Independent Bookseller’s Week, The Village Bookshop held a competition for children to design a bookmark which will be given out to customers of the bookshop when they buy a book.
The standard of entries was incredibly high and we would like to thank everyone who took the trouble to enter.
See below for the two winners, Eva and Nicole and also their bookmark designs. The bookmarks will be printed during the next month and will be given out to customers of the shop.
Eva won the 11+ age category. When asked why she felt her design was appropriate for the shop she said "...because there really are books for everyone in the bookshop, as me, my brother, my sister and my Mum all go there for the different books we like to read, and there are so many options, some of which are shown on the bookmark."
Nicole won the under 11 category. When asked about her design she said, "Woodford Green is surrounded by the lovely trees of Epping Forest. I think it makes people feel very happy and lucky to have their own Village Bookshop where they can find all the knowledge that they need."
Both girls are planning how to spend their £25 voucher. Eva likes a mix of genres but is currently enjoying Patrick Ness's "The Ask and the Answer" (see Alison's latest read for more info), Nicole is a big fan of Michael Morpurgo.
We hope you will all enjoy picking up one of Eva or Nicole's bookmarks in the shop in the near future.
