Bookmark Competition 2011

A really big thank you to the 37 children who entered the competition to design a book mark for the village bookshop. We were very impressed with the standard of drawing and the creativity in design.

The winner of the under 12 category was Helen who took a cartoon approach and told a story on the front of her bookmark. On the back she created a little form for the owner of the bookmark to fill in about their favourite reads. Helen said "I feel my design is appropriate because it shows the different kinds of books the Village Bookshop provides and I think it will encourage more people to buy books. Also the child can think about why they love books so much". Helen is a big fan of Michael Morpurgo's writing and is looking forward to buying some more of his books with her £25 book token that she received for winning.

The winner of the 12+ category was Louie. Louie took an outer space theme for his design with books racing through the night sky and said, "The Village Bookshop has so many books for people it's like a galaxy!" His slogan for the shop was "Open a book and open your mind". Louie is looking foward to buying some books for the summer holidays. He enjoys the writing of Robert Muchamore.

We hope that customers will enjoy picking up a copy of one of the bookmarks once they are back from the printer in August.
