Louise Rennison - Charity Fund Raising Event

We invited Louise Rennison to Woodford on 12th July to talk about her writing. Louise spoke to an audience of about 100 adults and children, in Bancrofts Great Hall, about her very successful series "The Confessions of Georgia Nicolson" of which books one and two were made into the film "Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging". The girls in the audience were thrilled to hear that the characters were all based on Louise's own childhood friends and teachers and that she still gets together with the Ace gang to discuss their teachers and their antics at school.

Louise also read two chapters of her new novel, "Withering Tights" which features Tallulah Casey, fourteen and a half years old, going to summer school in Dother Hall performing arts college somewhere Up North, surrounded by rolling dales, bearded cheesemaking villagers (male and female) and wildlife of the squirrely-type. Talullah soon is part of a fun gang of girls, boys make an appearance, Talullah has her first kiss and so starts a great new series of books from Louise.

Louise took questions from the audience and then signed copies of her books. All in all people had a great two hours and £636 was raised through the ticket sales for Haven House children's hospice. The cheque was presented by Louise to Christine, Twomey, Director of Care at Haven House. You can see Christine with Louise in the photo album below.

A big thanks goes to Louise for giving her time and for giving us such a fun filled evening. Also a big thanks to Mrs Ireland, Head of Bancrofts School for letting us use the magnificent Great Hall for the event. Much appreciated by us and Haven House.
